Now There's a Site You Don't See Every Day

You’ve got the RV that you’ve always dreamed of. No more hotel stays, no more cramped car rides. Just luxury and comfort in the great outdoors. It’s a dream come true.

So shouldn’t the place you pull it through be a dream true as well? According to Mike Atkinson, KOA’s facility development manager, the answer is yes.

“That’s why many KOA kampgrounds are now offering super sites,” he said. “The sites are 65 feet or more long with full hookups. They vary by kampground, but patio and hard surface sites are common.”

“Our guests love our super sites,” said Hans Wagner, owner of the 1000 Islands/Kingston Ontario KOA. “All of them are pull through sites with 45’ x 15’ concrete pads so that whether you have a coach or a fifth wheel, the pad is right at your front door.”

Wagner first installed super sites in his kampground three years ago and, based on their success, has added two more this year. Each has patio furniture, a barbeque, chiminea and wooden swing.

“Occasionally we may have one that has not been reserved, so as a surprise to one of our regular guests we may upgrade them to give them a peek at how nice these sites are,” he said. “They always request them every time they return.”

Guests at the Kissimmee/Orlando KOA are just At the Kissimmee/Orlando KOA, Manager Gary Andelin says that guests are having the same enthusiastic reaction.

“Whether they drive a big rig or a truck and travel trailer, our guests are saying that these kinds of deluxe pull-throughs are exactly what they’re looking for,” he said.

Especially, he noted, guests who may be new or unused to driving large motor homes.

“If they can pull through without having to back up, they really like that,” he said.

At the Kissimmee/Orlando KOA, which began installing super sites in 2002, there are 20 sites that are up to 130 feet long. Like those at the 1000 Island/Kingston park, many come with deluxe landscaped patios with comfortable furniture and other amenities.

“They are designed to accommodate a 40’ motor home with a trailer,” Andelin said. “They can pull in to stay for a few days without ever having to disconnect.”

According to Mike Atkinson, the super sites have continued to rise in popularity since they were first introduced.

“They offer so many nice things that they have quickly been our most-requested sites,” he said. “That’s why we always suggest that our guests call early to ensure they are able to reserve one.”
